It is estimated that the blueberry has been around for more than thirteen thousand years. Indigenous peoples gathered and ate fresh blueberries. They were also sun dried and subsequently used in cakes and pastries. They also crushed the dried fruit and used it as a condiment on meat and in soups.
Fresh or frozen blueberries contain vitamin C. In addition to contributing to the proper functioning of the immune system, vitamin C acts as an antioxidant and protects cells against damage associated with aging.
